Healthiness & calories are NOT related nor indirectly proportional

STOP! Before you dump all that oil onto your salad because you fell for all those health claims that “Sugar is the enemy… eat more fat!” and start to eat more fat… keep in mind that for every gram of fat you consume, that is 9 calories (versus the 4g that are in carbs and sugars). Just because a particular fat is healthy does not mean you can eat as much as you want. You still need to monitor your intake.
One teaspoon of a typical FAKE butter has 20 calories and 2.2g of fat
One teaspoon of Olive Oil has 40 calories and 4.5g (good) fat
One teaspoon of Table Sugar has 16 calories and 4.2g (bad) carbs
One teaspoon of whole wheat bread crumbs has approximately 9 calories and 1.5 g (bad) carbs, 0.1 g fat & 0.3 g protien
Let’s think about this… in your noble efforts to save on calories, you opt to go “healthy” and exchange croutons for olive oil. Having fallen for the health claims to eat more fat and eat less sugar, you skimp on the 10 calorie per cube croutons, and go for a few tablespoons of olive oil and vinegar. Afterall, it’s healthy, right? Why not a few more tablespoons for the heart. And in the end you end up eating a salad that was 50 calories of veggies and 4 tablespoons of olive oil and 4 tablespoons of vinegar. Nice and healthy. Well, you just consumed 476 calories and 54 grams of fat. Throw on 4 oz of lean chicken breast and now the tally is at 606 calories. Were those numbers you were expecting? Easily remedied by simply measuring out 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 3 oz of grilled chicken breast and now you got yourself a healthy meal that totals to 250-300 calorie meal (depending on how much raw veggies you toss with that oil) that slams you with 27 g of healthy fat versus 54! Now you see why knowing your portion sizes is so important and why just winging it because it is healthy may not work for you if you are trying to lose weight?
So if you think just because olive oil is “healthy” that you can dump a few tablespoons on your salad.. think again.
Healthiness and calories are NOT related nor are they indirectly proportional. Even the good stuff you have to watch out for.
